ABOUT ME

I’m Julius Hern, and I’m a 21 year old aspiring sports broadcaster and sportswriter from Barrie, ON.

I’m an extremely passionate fan of a wide variety of sports, both inside and outside of Canada, and am constantly tuning into some kind of sporting event every day.

I attended Cambrian College in Sudbury, ON, graduating from the media communications program in 2023. At Cambrian, we learned skills such as journalism, public relations, video/audio production, photography, digital media and marketing, digital design, and more.

I’ve also briefly volunteered for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League, fulfilling duties such as graphic design, photography, and creating content for social media.

My goal is to be able to share my passion for sports with readers, listeners, and viewers worldwide with my strong writing and announcing. My goal is to work in the United States as a play-by-play announcer for a variety of professional sports on television and radio, while continuing to contribute to a regular writing column in a major newspaper or online medium.

Ever since I was very young, I’ve been enamoured with how sports have been presented to me on television, and have always wanted to be just like the people who were describing the plays to us viewers at home. Growing up, my dad and I mostly watched hockey and baseball, so announcers like Bob Cole, Dan Schulman, and Joe Bowen were fixtures in our household. I always envied the fact that these professionals were paid to travel all across the continent and attend all of these fantastic sporting events.

Through high school, the COVID-19 pandemic, and college, I’ve gained an interest and passion for many other sports and leagues that don’t get a considerable amount of attention in Canada or even the United States. These include NCAA sports, international association football, golf, and many more.

While I played sports throughout my youth and adolescence. and still continue to remain active recreationally, my passion is in professional sports. I love being able to have discussions with people about the sports they love, and even turn them onto new events that they possibly hadn’t heard of before or had any interest in. The latter is a mission of our upcoming blog, the Bulletin of Professional Sports, and our affiliated podcast. We want to give attention to sports, events, and athletes that don’t necessarily get it from the major networks or publications.

I look forward to entering the industry of sports media, and covering topics that I’m extremely passionate about.
